The Beethoven hiking trail is an approximately 15-kilometre circular route in the Siebengebirge mountains that pays tribute to the scenic impressions that inspired Ludwig van Beethoven. The route begins in the picturesque Nachtigallental valley near Königswinter and leads past sights such as Drachenburg Castle and the Drachenfelsplateau, from where you can enjoy an impressive view over the Rhine Valley. The trail continues over the Geisberg and the Rosenau castle ruins before passing through the former quarry on the Stenzelberg and Heisterbach Abbey. A final ascent to the Petersberg rewards you with further panoramic views before the trail leads back to Königswinter.

Along the way, several steles provide information about Beethoven's life and his connection to the region. The route is challenging and requires a good level of fitness as well as sturdy footwear, the path markings are for an anti-clockwise hike!
