The Rotmilan-Höhenweg is an inspiring hiking trail that connects the federal states of North Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. This cross-border circular hiking trail through the picturesque Elsofftal valley stretches for almost 44 km and leads through the charming Wittgenstein villages of Elsoff, Christianseck, Diedenshausen and Alertshausen as well as Neuludwigsdorf in Hesse. The majestic red kite is a constant companion on this route. The circular trail, which runs at an altitude of 380 to 675 meters, offers lush nature and magnificent views of the Wittgensteiner Land and the Ederbergland. The trail is varied and offers different ways to explore it. It is not only suitable for demanding hikers, but also for cyclists. Some sections on the heights are particularly family-friendly and are ideal for baby carriages and people who rely on a wheelchair or walking frame. Ten marked feeder trails can be used for tours of various lengths. The Rotmilan-Höhenweg offers a fascinating 'borderline experience' with impressive views and is particularly recommended from March to November.
