The Möhne Valley Cycle Path connects Brilon, the source of the Möhne, with Arnsberg, where the river flows into the Ruhr. It follows the Möhne for 65 kilometers across the northern Sauerland. Cyclists can ride alongside the flowing water along the entire route. Some sections of the route follow former railroad lines, meaning that the Möhne Valley Cycle Path is almost entirely uphill. The cycle route is therefore ideal for cyclists who want to enjoy the scenery and make their way to their destination, including families.

Green meadow landscapes

There is much to discover on the tour: In addition to attractive places, the Möhne Valley also presents its most beautiful scenery. Alluvial landscapes with lush green meadows, forests and rolling hills characterize the scenery during the tour. The "Möhne Life" project has helped to renaturalize parts of the floodplain and restore the flowering valley meadows and sparse riparian forests for many animal and plant species of the low mountain valleys. As a result, cyclists can look forward to an even more beautiful nature experience.

Past the Möhnesee lake

One of the scenic highlights is Lake Möhne, one of the largest reservoirs in North Rhine-Westphalia. The route runs along both its southern and northern shores and offers a wonderful experience of nature. In addition, the imposing 100-year-old dam wall, which is still the heaviest monument in North Rhine-Westphalia, offers a fantastic view over the lake.

In Arnsberg, cyclists experience a contrast to the rest of the route: the former capital of Westphalia with its pretty old town right on the Ruhr invites you to take a stroll and enjoy a relaxing coffee. Cyclists can easily return to the starting point by public transport.
