Away from major roads and settlements, the wild and romantic Eifgenbach valley invites you to take a hike with plenty to discover. From old mills and former spa facilities in a deep sleep to an early castle complex, the sights along the way range from the edge of the trail, which leads through unspoilt nature.

The Eifgenanlage in Wermelskirchen is the starting point for the Eifgenbachweg. The park and leisure facility was the pride and joy of the up-and-coming town at the end of the 19th century. The Berger Mühle mill a good 1.5 kilometers downstream is considered one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the Bergisches Land region. From the "Neuemühle", legends, fairy tales and the memory of a devastating fire disaster accompany hikers on their way to Rausmühle and Markusmühle.

The remains of the Frohntaler Hammer, whose water wheel originally powered a wool spinning mill with a "cloth factory", offer impressive evidence of the former use of the Eifgenbach. In addition to insights into the flora and fauna of the Eifgenbach valley, the hiker learns about the successes of nature conservation, such as the dismantling of the former Burscheid drinking water reservoir. The remains of the Eifgenburg castle offer the opportunity to take an impressive journey back in time to the early Middle Ages shortly before reaching the destination.

In the south, this foray leads onto the "Bergischer Weg". From Neuemühle, there is a connecting path to the "Bergischer Panoramasteig".

The Eifgenbachweg is part of the new :dhünnhochfläche hiking trail network, which was developed as part of the Regionale 2010.

Current status of the bridge renovation in Neuemühle: the bridge will be renovated in October 2024. To avoid any restrictions, there will be a temporary bridge for the duration of the construction work. The Eifgenbachweg is therefore accessible throughout.
