When you visit Kamp Monastery, you can look back on over 890 years of history and tradition: It was founded in 1123 as the first Cistercian monastery on German soil as a foundation of the Archbishop of Cologne Friedrich I and quickly developed into the religious center of the region. After it was destroyed and rebuilt, the history of Kamp Monastery came to an end in 1802. The buildings have been used again since the 1950s and monks from the Carmelite order moved into the monastery.
Today, Kamp Abbey is a tourist attraction with a unique atmosphere. Do you love gardens and flowers? Then the Kamp Monastery is the perfect excursion tip for you! The terraced garden is laid out like famous French castle gardens, and a walk through the herb garden is educational. Whether concerts in the abbey church, cultural events in the Kamp open-air theater or chamber concerts in the rococo hall, Kamp Abbey is an important venue and an oasis of relaxation!
