The Max Ernst Museum Brühl of the LVR exhibits paintings, collages, graphics, sculptures and assemblages that provide an overview of the Dadaist and Surrealist artist's extensive oeuvre. Special exhibitions present international artistic positions of modernism and the present, which stand in the tradition of a Dadaist or Surrealist attitude.
The painter, sculptor, draughtsman and poet Max Ernst is one of the most important artists of the 20th century. He used indirect working methods such as grattage (scratching off) or the copying technique. By exploiting his hallucinatory abilities, the artist reinterprets objects and structures from his environment and repeatedly breaks them up through irony and humor.
In the current special exhibition "IDYLL" (14.05. - 09.07.2023), works by Luise Straus Prize winner Isabell Kamp and the winner of the Max Ernst Scholarship of the City of Brühl, Fabian Friese, are on display. It is a mixture of contemporary ceramic sculptures and expansive installations.
