Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn

Bonn

The Bundeskunsthalle in the former federal capital of Bonn is a platform for popular changing exhibitions of international significance. The Art and Exhibition Hall, whose official function is to enrich cultural life in Germany and promote cultural exchange, falls under the auspices of the federal government and the states.

The establishment always shows two to four exhibitions simultaneously over a total exhibition space of 5,600 square metres, including important changing exhibitions of precious artistic treasures and cultural artefacts from all over the world. Since the establishment opened in 1992, it has presented more than 100 exhibitions in the fields of art and cultural history, science and technology.

In addition to important exhibitions of works, high-quality events, media conferences and concerts also take place in the ambience of outstanding architecture.  The stone-clad light towers and sheet copper roof, which can be seen from far and wide, are particularly impressive. They are unmistakable characteristic features, which – like the rest of the building – were built according to designs by Vienna architect Gustav Peichl.

He also designed the idyllic planted rooftop, which offers a further 8,000 square metres of space for works by famous artists. Here – far above the hustle and bustle of the busy streets – an inspiring walk surrounded by greenery is possible in the middle of the city.  Nature lovers stroll back and forth between planted flowerbeds and constructed sculptures, for example. They can soak up new energy at sculpture and garden exhibitions such as “Goethe’s Garden” in the lovingly designed cultural oasis. The panoramic image of the museum mile encourages a visit to Kunstmuseum Bonn, Haus der Geschichte or the Alexander König Museum afterwards.
