Pablo Picasso and Ernst Ludwig Kirchner are among the most important representatives of modernism: one is a jack-of-all-trades who impresses with his diverse artistic forms of expression and techniques. The other co-founded the Brücke group of artists and developed his style over the years from Impressionism to Expressionism.

In a juxtaposition, the exhibition "Kirchner. Picasso." at the LWL Museum of Art and Culture is dedicated to the hitherto neglected research question of connections and differences between the works of these exceptional artists. Portraits, depictions of bathers and the use of entertainment culture, for example, can be seen in both artists' oeuvres. Guests can discover parallels and contradictions.
