The anniversary exhibition "Jupp Darchinger. The Eye of the Republic" at the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn honors the legendary photographer who documented the Bonn Republic like no other. He would have been 100 years old on August 6.
Darchinger, whose work shaped Germany's visual memory, skillfully captured the changes of the post-war period with his camera. His images depict events ranging from the economic miracle to the peace and emancipation movements and the migration debate of the 1980s. From June 12 to September 14, 2025, visitors can now discover iconic portraits of personalities such as Willy Brandt and Helmut Schmidt.
The role of chronicler
The exhibition, which was created in collaboration with the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, offers insights into the social and political developments of an era. In addition to Darchinger's famous "theme pictures", the LVR-LandesMuseum Bonn is showing previously hidden facets of his work that open up new perspectives on his role as chronicler.
