World culture in Corvey

Höxter

Since 2014, the complex with the monastery church, the Carolingian westwork and the princely castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region.

  • Romantically nestled on the Weserbogen, you will find the former Benedictine monastery of Corvey in Höxter.
  • Since 2014, the complex with the monastery church, the Carolingian westwork and the princely castle has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most popular excursion destinations in the region. Your tour begins in the Middle Ages and ends with Hoffmann von Fallersleben, who wrote the Deutschland-Lied here at the beginning of the century. (Tours: Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays at 11:00 and 15:00 or by appointment).
  • In the historic town center of Höxter, you can then stroll through alleyways with lots of half-timbered houses and well-preserved buildings in the magnificent Weser Renaissance style.
  • In the Jacob Pins House, you can follow in the artistic footsteps of the painter and graphic artist Jacob Pins, who was born in Höxter in 1917 and fled to Palestine in 1936 to escape the Nazi persecution of the Jews.
  • You can't miss Café Pammel in Höxter. One of the most beautiful cafés in Germany offers a wide selection of specialty cakes. Alternatively, fans of coffee specialties can visit Cafébar Apotheke, which stands out from the crowd thanks to its special interior design with apothecary cabinets.

Excursion tip: The Fürstenberg Porcelain Manufactory is a manufactory with more than 270 years of tradition. High-quality porcelain has been produced here since 1714, which you can also buy in the factory shop (Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10.00 - 18.00). Alternatively: St. Benedict accompanies you on a visit to the monastery grounds in the Höxter district and challenges you to play unusual mind games (Benedictine rules).

Overnight tip: Hotel Villa Huxori in the heart of Höxter or the Weser Aktivhotel Corvey right next to the World Heritage Site.
