The Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen is dedicating a comprehensive survey exhibition at K21 to the internationally renowned photo artist Katharina Sieverding. Katharina Sieverding, known for her monumental large-scale photographs and iconic close-ups, has shaped the art scene with her innovative aesthetic since the 1970s. Her works, which often combine performative, cinematic and photographic elements, address global crises, political power structures and human ethical responsibility.

The exhibition focuses on an insight into her 60 years of work as well as her extensive archive, which is being presented to the public for the first time. Particular emphasis is placed on her experimental works, which open up new dimensions of photography through transformation processes such as multiple exposures and solarization.

Katharina Sieverding continues to take clear political positions with her art today, including on global challenges such as war and environmental destruction. In addition to photographs, the exhibition also shows performative works, installations and a large-format poster campaign that illustrate her profound socio-critical questions about power, abuse and identity.
