In the immediate vicinity of the town center and the spa gardens, the Schmantel circular trail offers a very gentle ascent and beautiful views of the Orketal valley. The starting point is the large parking lot on Schulstraße in Winterberg. From here, the trail first leads through the residential area around Poststraße before turning right onto the Schmantelrundweg. At the beginning, the completely asphalted path is surrounded by fields with panoramic views and a few shady trees. After approx. 1 km, the trail runs mostly through a forest, with clearings opening up views of the Orketal valley. Many benches along the path invite people with walking disabilities to linger and enjoy the colorful and species-rich mountain meadows. Due to the only slight inclines and the asphalted or paved surface, it is also easy to hike with a wheelchair. If you wish, you can take a detour to the Kreuzberg with a view of Winterberg's town center. There is a slight incline to overcome here. The regular route leads back to the starting point at the Schulstraße parking lot via the street "Am Rad". A special recommendation after the hike is a visit to the old town and one of the many restaurants around the market square. There is a barrier-free toilet in the tourist information office, approx. 600m from the parking lot.
