Location Petersberg

Königswinter

The Petersberg near Königswinter is a very special place. For decades, it was the guest house of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Petersberg site in the former guardhouse brings its history to life. The visitor center consisting of five areas - a house of the NRW Foundation - is located at the driveway to the former guest house, today's Hotel Petersberg. It is home to a unique exhibition. In this exhibition, visitors can immerse themselves in the history of the Petersberg. The Petersberg's journey begins in the post-war period, when the Allies brought the former resort to the attention of the world. The important steps, such as Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, who paved the way for the young Federal Republic to rejoin the community of states, are not to be missed. In addition, the guests of state who have stayed here since the 1950s are also discussed. Another section looks at the building's former function as a guardhouse and its security equipment. And finally, the Petersberg site also offers an excursion into nature: parts of the Petersberg are now a national natural heritage site - and therefore a valuable retreat for plants and animals.
