Neanderthal Museum

Mettmann

A permanent multimedia exhibition tells visitors from all over the world about the prehistory and early history of mankind from its beginnings in the African savannahs more than many million years ago to the present day. This journey through time is illustrated with life-size and faithfully reconstructed Neanderthal figures and a baby mammoth.

Regularly changing special exhibitions on a wide variety of human history topics round off the offer. Whether young or old, numerous hands-on stations, exciting workshops and guided tours ensure an unforgettable experience in the fascinating world of the Stone Age.

The Stone Age workshop invites young explorers in particular to actively explore the world of early man in a playful way. Under expert guidance, the curious can try out Stone Age craft techniques and create their own cave-painted works of art - also as a Stone Age birthday party. Directly opposite the museum is a unique and adventurous adventure world including water play: children can let off steam on the Stone Age playground and make connections to prehistoric times and the Neanderthals at the same time.

A visit to the discovery site with the new "Höhlenblick" adventure tower completes the museum tour. The approximately 22-metre-high tower with a domed roof in the shape of a Neanderthal skull offers a view of Stone Age history through virtual telescopes on a viewing platform.

The charming museum café is the perfect place to relax after an exciting visit to the Neanderthal Museum.

The establishment has been awarded the TYPISCH neanderland seal of quality.
