Important information about accessibility: certificates

  • All areas relevant for testing meet the quality criteria of the label "Accessibility tested - partially barrier-free for people with walking disabilities and for wheelchair users".

    Some information on accessibility are listed below. Detailed information can be found in the test report at the end of the text.

    • There are three marked public parking spaces for people with disabilities about 20 meters away (space size: 320 cm x 450 cm).
    • The outdoor paths are easy to walk and drive on due to their surface qualities.
    • Access to the museum is possible without steps or thresholds.
    • The cash desk is 120 cm high. 
    • All public doors and passageways are at least 90 cm wide.
    • All evaluated rooms that can be used by the guest are accessible at ground level or by elevator.
    • The exhibition rooms on the 1st to the 4th floor can be reached via the elevator.
    • The elevator cab measures 250 cm x 155 cm. The operating elements are not arranged on a horizontal control panel (height of the control units: 98 cm to 125 cm).
    • In all exhibition rooms, the exhibits and corresponding information can be seen primarily from a sitting position.
    • Aids offered: wheelchairs, portable folding chairs
    • Guided tours for people with walking disabilities and wheelchair users are offered. A reservation is desired. The entire route is steplessly accessible. Seating is available.

    Public toilet on the ground floor

    •  The toilet door can be opened with a Euro-key. 
    • The manoeuvring spaces in the toilet are:
      in front of/behind the door, in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150 cm,
      127 cm x 59 cm to the left of the toilet, 66 cm x 59 cm to the right.
    • There are handles which can be folded up on both sides of the toilet.
    • The washbasin is wheelchair accessible, but the mirror cannot be seen while sitting. 
    • An alarm trigger is available. 

    Public toilet on the 4th floor

    • The toilet door can be opened with a Euro-key. 
    • The manoeuvring spaces in the toilet are:
      in front of/behind the door 120 cm x 120 cm,
      in front of the toilet and the washbasin at least 150 cm x 150,
    • left and right of the toilet 200 cm x 57 cm.
    • There are handles which can be folded up on both sides of the toilet.
    • The washbasin is wheelchair accessible, but the mirror cannot be seen while sitting.
    • An alarm trigger is available.

    • In the building there is an optically perceptible alarm in the following areas: entrance area, information area on the ground floor.
    • There is a portable audio induction loop/FM system which can be used at special exhibitions.
    • In the exhibition, information on the exhibits is provided in written form.
    • In the elevator, the outgoing emergency call is confirmed acoustically, but not optically.
    • There are no guided tours offered for people with hearing impairment and deaf people.

    • Assistance dogs are allowed.
    • The entrance area to the museum is not visually contrasting with the surroundings, but can be recognized by a tactile change of floor covering.
    • In the exhibition rooms, the well-lit exhibits contrast visually with their surroundings, and information is conveyed acoustically.
    • In the elevator, the controls are visually rich in contrast and can be tactilely detected. Signs are not available in Braille. The stopping position is announced by speech. An emergency call is confirmed acoustically.
    • Glass doors are marked with safety markings.
    • Operating elements can be detected tactilely throughout the entire building and are visually rich in contrast almost everywhere.
    • Paths are partially visually contrasted and marked with tactile markings or the walls can be used for orientation.
    • Rooms and corridors are brightly lit and glare-free almost everywhere.
    • Information is provided in clearly legible font.
    • There is no uninterrupted guidance system with floor indicators.
    •  nformation is not available in Braille or prismatic font. 
    • Possibilities of providing information: Audio guides
    • There are no guided tours offered for visually impaired and blind people.

    • Name and logo of the company are clearly visible from the outside.
    • The destinations of the routes are within sight. There is no uninterrupted guidance system or signs at a visible distance.
    • The information on the exhibits is predominately provided in writing, but not in easy language. 
    • Guided tours for guests with cognitive impairments are offered in easy language. A reservation is desired.
