Dortmund Brewery Museum

Dortmund

For many decades, the Ruhr city was regarded as the beer capital of Germany and Europe. As early as 1900, the focus of German beer production was in Dortmund. In 1993, Dortmund was still in second place among German brewery locations with an annual production of 5.6 hectolitres. Today, this output has almost halved and only one large brewery remains in Dortmund. However, the city of Dortmund has dedicated a museum to the barley juice: since 2006, the new brewery museum has been tracing the tradition of beer production on a total of 1,100 square meters of exhibition space and linking it with industrial and urban history topics. Twice a month, the museum offers the open guided tour "Brewery Experience Dortmund" with a tour of the museum and Dortmunder Actien brewery followed by a beer tasting.
